Dr. Daipayan (Deep) Guha
MD, PhD, FRCSC
Dr. Guha is a Canadian board-certified neurosurgeon specializing in adult spinal surgery. He is currently an Associate Professor in the Division of Neurosurgery at McMaster University in Hamilton, ON, Canada. He directs the McMaster Combined Orthopedic and Neurosurgical Fellowship in Complex and Minimally-Invasive Spinal Surgery. His clinical focus is on image-guided and minimally-invasive approaches to the full spectrum of spinal disorders, including cervical spine surgery, spine oncology, spine trauma, intradural pathologies, degenerative pathologies as well as deformity and revision surgery. Dr. Guha is fluent in English and Bengali.
Education and Training
Dr. Guha completed his neurosurgical residency from the University of Toronto, during which time he also completed a PhD developing and validating a novel spinal image guidance technology. After this, he completed a clinical fellowship in complex and minimally-invasive spinal surgery, including anterior and lateral approaches to the thoracolumbar spine, at the prestigious University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He was appointed as junior faculty during his time in Pittsburgh.
Academic Contributions
Dr. Guha holds active research interests in the development and validation of novel technologies to streamline surgical workflow and enhance trainee education. He has published over 60 peer-reviewed manuscripts and multiple textbook chapters, along with numerous national and international conference presentations. He has received numerous institutional and national grants to fund his research activity. He is involved with multiple national and international expert forums, helping to develop guidelines at the forefront of managing many spinal pathologies. He is actively involved in trainee education.
