Dr. Gurpreet Johal
Dr. Gurpreet Johal completed all of his training at the University of British Columbia. This included a Bachelor of Science with a major in Biochemistry. This was followed with a Doctor of Medicine and residency training in General Surgery. Since that time, he has been practicing as a General Surgeon in Burnaby. At his clinical practice, he cares for patients with a wide range of disorders, including but not limited to: abdominal wall hernias, colon cancer, and acute intra-abdominal illnesses.
During his residency, he completed several award-winning research projects and received the prestigious Frank B. Thompson Memorial Award. This award recognizes a graduating resident who best exemplified the qualities of an outstanding clinical general surgeon.
Dr. Johal maintains a strong interest in surgical education and is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the UBC Department of Surgery. He enjoys teaching and working with medical students and residents.
Outside of work, Dr. Johal enjoys traveling, prepping his cars for track days, home improvement projects, and spending time with his young family.
