Orthopaedic Surgeon – Personalized Hip & Knee Arthroplasty

Dr. Gabriel Roby is a fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon with expertise in tailored techniques of hip and knee arthroplasty as well as orthopaedic trauma. He earned his medical degree from McGill University and completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery at the Université de Montréal. He subsequently pursued two international fellowships. First in orthopaedic trauma at Auckland City Hospital in New Zealand, and then in personalized hip and knee arthroplasty at Clinique du Sport de Bordeaux, France. These experiences refined his approach to surgical precision, limb alignments, and patient-specific arthroplasty techniques.

Dr. Roby is particularly recognized for his ability to tailor surgical care to each person’s unique profile. Rather than applying a one-size-fits-all approach, he is adept at selecting the most appropriate alignment strategy—whether mechanical, restricted, inverse or calipered kinematic, functional/robotic and technology-assisted alignments—based on individual anatomy, medical history, activity level, and goals. He combines this understanding with a complete range of implants and surgical techniques to optimize both short-term recovery and long-term outcomes. He is proficient in multiple minimally invasive approaches for both knee and hip procedures, including performing anterior hip replacements without a traction table, using gentle manipulation to achieve optimal results with less tissue disruption and quicker recovery. His expertise includes partial and total joint replacements, hip resurfacing, and the full spectrum of modern hip and knee implants. This subspecialized skillset allows him to offer personalized procedures for high-performance athletes, patients with complex anatomical challenges, and those seeking the fastest and safest return to daily life, all while minimizing the risk of overcorrection, instability, or implant wear.

His academic interests focus on joint alignment strategies in arthroplasty, and he has authored peer-reviewed publications on kinematic techniques in both total knee and total hip replacements. He is a founding member of the Personalized Arthroplasty Society, serves on its scientific committee, and contributes to the training of local and international surgeons in kinematic alignment using robotic-assisted procedures.

Dr. Roby currently practices at Charles-Le Moyne Hospital in Québec, where he offers advanced joint replacement and trauma care. He is known for his patient-centred approach and commitment to evidence-based medicine. He places great importance on listening, educating his patients, and building trust throughout the surgical journey. His philosophy is rooted in connecting with the person behind each operative challenge to ensure care that is as human as it is technically excellent.
