Dr. Femida Kherani

Femida Kherani, MD, FRCSC, Dipl. ABO is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of British Columbia and currently serves as Chair of Wellness, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Indigeneity within the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. She is an oculofacial plastic and reconstructive surgeon with a specialized practice in oculoplastics and orbital surgery in Vancouver, British Columbia. 

Dr. Kherani completed her Doctor of Medicine and residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Alberta, followed by a prestigious two-year fellowship in Oculofacial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.  

She is certified by both the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and the American Board of Ophthalmology, and is a Fellow of the American Society of Oculofacial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS).  

Dr. Kherani is a recognized leader in ophthalmology both nationally and internationally. She served as President of the Canadian Society of Oculoplastic Surgery in 2020 and was awarded the Canadian Ophthalmological Society Champion for Change Award in 2021. Her leadership extends across multiple organizations, including service on the American Academy of Ophthalmology Council and the Board of Directors for Women in Ophthalmology (USA). She is the Founder of the Canadian Chapter of Women in Ophthalmology and Women Ophthalmologists Worldwide, advancing mentorship and leadership opportunities for women in the field. 

In addition to her clinical and leadership roles, Dr. Kherani is deeply committed to education, mentorship, and global eye care. She has contributed as an invited speaker at major international conferences and has participated in surgical outreach initiatives in underserved regions worldwide. She also serves on the Board of Directors of Orbis Canada.
