Dr. Barry Cayen

Dr. Barry Cayen is an orthopedic surgeon, specializing in adult hip and knee replacements. He performs Total Hip Replacement Surgery using the Direct Anterior approach with a Hana table. The anterior approach to hip replacement affords patients an accelerated recovery in the initial few weeks after surgery compared to traditional approaches. An advanced computer navigation tool is used during the procedure to perform precise measurements and give the surgeon live data to perform the procedure in the safest way possible.

Dr. Cayen also performs Total Knee Replacements and Partial Knee Replacements for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis. For total knee replacement surgery, a surgical robot is used to personalize implant sizing and position for each patient.

Dr. Cayen operates out of Humber River Hospital and Clearpoint Health Surgical Centre in Toronto, Canada. He is a Clinical Lecturer for the Division of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Toronto.

Dr. Cayen completed his bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences from Queen’s University and a Master of Science degree in exercise physiology from the University of Toronto. He then went on to complete his MD and then Orthopedic Surgery residency at the University of Toronto. He has fellowship training in adult reconstruction and orthopedic trauma from St. Michael’s Hospital and sports surgery fellowship training from the Toronto Western Hospital.

During his residency training, Dr. Cayen earned a Masters in Public Health degree from Harvard University with a focus on healthcare management. At that time, he gained experience in health care consulting both in the private and public sectors. He has published articles in exercise
